I started knitting and crocheting at the age of 8. I was 9 years old when I really fell in love with the craft. I was taught by my Grandmother and my Mother. I was taught how to read Japanese graphs and/or look at a garment and make it. I taught myself how to read grids and patterns, and if I get stuck, I have a close friend to help me.

Yellow Felted Bag
Yellow Felted Bag.
I started this yellow hand bag February 2008. This was the first felting project I did. I put it aside because I needed more yarn for the straps. I started a new project and realized I had this to finish first. I bought more yarn and was not paying any attention to how long the straps were. I thought they would felt short, however, it felted shorter width wise not length wise. I just put a knot at the shoulder which gave it a little personality to the bag. I did finish my felted bag October 2008.
If I would have known how to read a simple pattern at that time, I would not have had the problem I did. I was determined by mid-year that I would know how to read simple patterns and advance from there.
Loop Scarf
Fun Loop Scarf
I made this scarf about a year ago without a pattern. I was taught this by looking at it and trial and error. I then tried to make a red scarf the same way but am missing a stitch, but however, it looked the same.
This scarf if bright and fun to wear. I used Red Heart yarn. It is soft, light and warm to wear!

Squiggly Scarf - 2nd Pattern Project
Here is a fun scarf that is either squiggly looking or wormy looking! The yarn I used is by Nimbus, soft and durable! I used 2 skeins.
I had taken this scarf apart 3 times. It continued to get larger, so I ripped it out and started over, as I got to the second row I could see that it was starting to get bigger again. After the third time I figured out what I did and here is the finished project! I read the pattern correct, but I didn't pay attention to what I did.
The scarf is very light weight, but warm!
Gaunlets - First Project Pattern I did!
Hello Everyone!
First I want to say that this is the most recent item I have made using a pattern. I have been crocheting and knitting since I was nine years old. I have made many scarves, baby blankets, Afghans, etc,. without patterns.
My first project my grandmother taught me was a crocheted blanket in three pastel colors. Between my Grandmother and my own Mother, neither one was taught to read a pattern, but could look at something and then make it, so that is how I was taught. My Mom is Chinese and she also taught me to read a picture crochet book out of a Japanese book by looking at the diagrams.
I decided at the end of 2008 that I would start to read simple patterns and make something. My first item I learned to read was a knitted felted kitty pie (cat bed). At that time I learned the continetal knitting, which I picked up quickly. I then was taught to read a simple crochete felted kitty pie once again.
January 6th, I joined some great ladies at Fiber Friday, this is where a group of women meet to sit and share patterns, etc. I learned my first actual pattern project with determination. I wanted to learn how to read and incorporate the pattern into a design. I was almost done with my 1st gaunlet, realized I messed up, took it all apart. I got home started over and finished my first purple gaunlet on Friday, 13th of January 2009. I am very pleased! Enjoy!
